East Yorkshire Badger Protection Group

Welcome to our web site

Four badgers at play by Laurie CampbellThe East Yorkshire Badger Protection Group is the only group in East Yorkshire devoted solely to the welfare of badgers, although we are also interested in the welfare of all wildlife.  Our area, which covers the ‘old’ East Riding of Yorkshire, Roughly, that is from Filey in the north down to Spurn Point in the south and out west as far as York and Goole.

Working TogetherAn adult prepares to leave the set by Laurie Campbell.

We are happy to work alongside our neighbours in Ryedale and the North Riding, we are members of the North Regional Badger Group and also an associate member of the Badger Trust, the national voice of badgers.

History

The EYBPG began over 20 years ago. It was founded in 1987 as one area with the North Riding, but has since separated as such a large area was far too unwieldy to organise.

Our members

carry out many jobs connected with badgers. For instance, we;

  • record the locations of setts,
  • watch over setts and check for illegal activities in and around them,
  • carry out land surveys to establish whether badgers are present,
  • give advice on all aspects of badger life,
  • liaise with the Humberside Police Wildlife Officer,
  • we give talks and slide shows and attend various where we promote the welfare of badgers and
  • raise funds to further the aims of our group.
